Lesson 1:
Warm-ups and breath support
To get the most out of your voice, you need to know how to use it - safely.
We explore pace, range, volume and mastering your breath supply. Along with essential vocal warm-ups that will ensure your voice stays healthy for a long and fruitful career.
Lesson 2:
Styles and phrasing
Being a high-quality voice over actor requires versatility.
We explore and practise the different styles of voice overs including retail, natural and corporate. Plus, you’ll learn the importance of phrasing and how to navigate it for different briefs so your auditions are always a stand-out favourite.
Lesson 3:
Authentic connection
Yes words matter, but it’s your delivery that gets you booked. Your job as a voice over artist is to make your audience FEEL.
In this lesson, we'll learn how to break down a script to discover who you are talking to and what you’re trying to achieve.
(And uncover any of your personal feelings or biases that could help or hinder you too!)
You’ll practice how to ‘lift the words off the page’ to help incite emotion in your listener that will best highlight the product or service you’re showcasing.
Lesson 4:
The natural neutral read
This is the most in-demand read in the industry right now - so we'll be spending this week mastering it so you're well positioned to fulfil the brief and secure those bookings.
A neutral tone - in an industry of variety and vocal shifts - can be a challenging skill of its own.
Here, you'll learn how to take the intonation and variability out of your delivery, without sounding like a robot.
Lesson 5:
The retail read
Learning to sell a product or service with your voice alone is a gift you’ll master this week.
Also known as a ‘commercial’ style of voice over we’ll unpack how to use your inflections, cadence and feeling to make any listener go from hearing to action.
Lesson 6:
Corporate style
In the corporate world they need voices that command attention and respect.
This style encompasses more of an educational tone, in which you’ll learn to deliver training, procedures and scripts designed for brand awareness, making you all-the-more bookable for these big jobs.
Lesson 7:
The feedback loop
Theory only takes us so far in life. It’s time to get in some serious practice.
This will be an all-vocal-cords-on-deck session where you will deepen your learning through doing. And gain some valuable feedback along the way.
